A-O River

How it seemed so obvious to laugh at ourselves
But instead we became stunted as a sapling in shade
Chamomile steam train plunged
Into a silver lake as she
Held you like a map
(I can't forget the hiss...)
Crowded by hands holding
Mirrors to the fog, I
Can't see my way out
All at once...
All at once, you were swallowed
By a cold marble quiet,
From whose belly you asked
"Is all of this me?"

Dead Carrot

Dead in the center of the carrot field
Where you wrote your first haiku.
October went better in my head.
You put your favorite conductor
In the outlet by your bed.
You don’t think I remember?
I’ve never been so scared.
Don’t let the grass grow around me,
Around you.
Dead in the river by the bivouac,
But some things only change.
Happy birthday! Happy birthday!
I saw you flicker in a chorus of
Pale leaves. You said
“Don’t make a big plan,
You’ll lose your patience quick.”
Don’t let the grass grow around me,
Around you.
We met as a double stop on a worn out maplewood violin;
Singed the air and split apart like two passing merchant ships
Under a wicked blood moon. Yet the violinist’s song kept
Moving right along, and I was fasting with the conviction
The Good Father had heard my prayer.
“Swift turn these boats around, how unimportant are my wares!
I’ve realized I can’t live as a single seasick, horsehair pitch;
We were meant to occupy the same space not once,
But in every crest. My God, give me coda!”
Picking at acres of dry skin,
I made a little cemetery of my bedroom floor.

Plastic Wife
02:50
|

People walk around like they know whats up
And they can see that I'm going down
Give your attention, give you a goal
Watch out sir, there goes your soul
Pretty girl, plastic wife
Tell me sir, what was your price?
I do not know
What's the price of it all
Is it worth the fall
If we cannot walk away?
Can you really say that you don't notice
The way that it is turning now?
I do not know
What's the price of it all
Is it worth the fall
If we cannot walk away?
